Swingtown: Hottest Show Of The Summer On CBS

“Swingtown”, finally a show I can relate to!

This summer, CBS will be airing a new series about your friendly, suburban, swinging couples! This series is sure to be a ground breaking, must see, television event.

CBS is pushing creative boundaries with such shows as the Vampire P.I. drama “Moonlight,” the murder-mystery musical “Viva Laughlin,” the reality series, “Kid Nation”, and now, “Swingtown.”Swingtown on CBS

“Swingtown” takes us back to the 1970’s, with shag-carpeted homes that house couples reveling in the sexual and social revolution that introduced open marriages, and women’s liberation. The main couple we will fall in love with is Susan and Bruce Miller who move their family to a well to do Chicago suburb. We then meet their neighbors, Tom and Trina Decker, who are an outgoing couple, beautiful to look at, fun to be around, but also on the hunt for something a little different.

For what you ask?

Bruce and Sarah soon discover that the new place they call home, as well as the neighbors, share a little more than just a cup of coffee in the morning.

Season One:

Episode One (The Pilot)

Its 1976 – the year of the American Bicentennial – when Susan and Bruce Miller (played by Molly Parker and Jack Davenport) move their family from a middle-class neighborhood to an affluent suburb of Chicago. Although it is hard and somewhat emotional leaving behind their best friends, Roger and Janet Thompson (played by Josh Hopkins and Miriam Shor), the Millers vow to keep in touch with old friends while they make new ones It is not long before Tom and Trina Decker (Grant Show and Lana Parrilla), the Miller’s new neighbors, welcome the new couple into not only the neighborhood but also into a new ‘lifestyle.’

This is probably one of the best summer series I have ever had the honor of viewing. Executively-produced and written by Mike Kelley (of memorable, critically-acclaimed series like “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Jericho,”) “Swingtown” promises to be a big hit. The show explores the thrill of the 1970s sexual revolution, and includes cultural taboos such as Quaaludes, cocaine, key parties, porn, and pot!

The show is well-cast with Parker (who played the lovely Alma Garret in the hit HBO series “Deadwood”) and Davenport (of BBC fame). The Millers are the quintessential 1970s middle class family complete with one teenage daughter, Laurie (played by Shanna Collins), and one pre-teenage son, B.J. (played by Aaron Holwes).

While it is obvious to the audience from the beginning that the Deckers do indeed indulge in an open relationship, it is not so obvious to Susan and Bruce. When the Deckers invite the Millers over for a pool party, they are surprised to find that this is no ordinary party, and these people know how to have way more fun than they could ever have hoped for! Unfortunately, old neighbors Roger and Janet do not feel the love and scurry out with their tails between their legs, while Susan and Bruce decide to stick around for a while to see what happens.

Next – Episode Two (Love Will Find A Way)
